Wrecked Wide Web

Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1989 to share information between scientists around the globe. Well, things have changed in the past 30+ years, haven't they?

The Web has become an intrinsic part of our daily lives nowadays. We shop online, watch videos, order our food, have conversations, play games, navigate to our destination, listen to music, manage our finances and whatnot.

You'd think we build something magnificent in those three decades. Unfortunately, we often did a lousy job, didn't learn from our mistakes, or even got the basics right.

In this talk, Rowdy will look to the past, present and future of web development and how we can fix what we've wrecked

Using Data Visualization to Fight COVID-19

2020 will be remembered as the year of COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, I was involved in building a web app for the government health department. The app visualized the chain of infection and helped decision makers to understand the characteristics of the virus spreading and other aspects.
In this talk, I’ll delve into how we used D3, React and PixiJS in order to build the app.

WebRTC is the technology that powers video calls in browsers. What you might not know are all the features WebRTC unlocks for the web. In this talk, we'll take a journey through WebRTC, from the primitives and protocols to the projects that have been built. You'll learn the basics of getting two peers connected in a video chat and move on to advanced topics like camera control, screen sharing, audio analysis, using the data channel and more. We might even be able to solve the "You're on mute!" problem that plagues every video chat. When you understand WebRTC and the related APIs you'll be amazed with what you can build.

An Android, a Desktop, and a web developer enter in a bar

Three different platforms meet at a bar and decide to share (pun intended) a couple of drinks.

This last year has been great for multiplatform development. As Kotlin keeps pushing for new releases and KMP starts to gain more adoption and stable releases, we now have the chance to write the UI for our Android apps with Compose and share it along with the Desktop and the Web.

In this talk, you’re going to see how you can start to decompose your Android app and start sharing all of its content along with a Desktop app and the Web. Drink at your own responsibility.
